"Fake" Stroganoff

With a house full of kids and a small grocery budget we invented this to have a meal that's cheap, easy, pretty fast to make and goes a long way.

For 10 people ()


  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, chopped
  • pound(s) hamburger
  • can cream of mushroom soup
  • 2 tablespoon(s) olive oil or butter
  • tablespoon(s) worchestershire sauce
  • 6 cup(s) water
  • 16 ounce(s) sour cream
  • 1/2 cup(s) flour
  • 4 bullion cubes

"Fake" Stroganoff Directions

  1. Place olive oil or butter in a large pot, add chopped onion and garlic. Cook until softened.
  2. Add hamburger and cook until no longer pink.
  3. Add water, boullion cubes, mushroom soup,1 or 2 cans depending on your taste, worchestershire sauce and whisk together until well mixed. Allow it to cook about 10-15 min.
  4. Mix flour into the sour cream and add to the hamburger mixture, whisking constantly to mix well. Cook several minutes more stirring frequently until the mixture thickens. Add salt and pepper to taste.
  5. If you like it thicker or creamier feel free to add more flour or less water or more sour cream. You can play with this recipe quite a bit a still have it come out really well.
  6. Serve over pasta of your choice
