- 2 cup(s) cabbage, shredded
- 2 teaspoon(s) basil
- 3 carrots, chopped
- 1 teaspoon(s) sage
- 1 bayleaf
- 10 cup(s) water
- 2 teaspoon(s) oregano
- 3 celery stalks, chopped
- 1 teaspoon(s) coriander
- 1 ham bone
- 2 cup(s) green split peas
- 2 teaspoon(s) thyme
- 2 onions, chopped
- 3 tablespoon(s) butter
- 2 teaspoon(s) marjoram
- 1 teaspoon(s) chervil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
Split Pea Soup Directions
- In a kettle, saute in butter, carrots, celery, onion, garlic and cabbage until limp. Add water, peas, seasonings and ham bone.
- Bring to a boil, cover and simmer over medium heat for 2 hours, stirring frequently.
- Remove bayleaf. Remove ham bone and separate the meat from the bone. Cut meat into samll pieces. Put soupl through the blender and return to kettle. return meat to soup and discard the bone. Heat another 15 monutes and its ready to serve.
- This can also be tossed into a slow cooker and left on low for the day. shred the meat when you come home and stir it all together.
- I have also put all the ingredients into a dutch oven, covered, and put it into the oven for 2 hours. It requires very little stirring this way.
- If your soup is thicker than you like you can always add more water or some chicken broth.
- And as always, salt and pepper to taste
