2 tablespoon(s) yeast
2 1/2 cup(s) warm water
3 tablespoon(s) sugar
1 tablespoon(s) salt
5 tablespoon(s) vegetable oil
6 cup(s) flour

Fabulous French Bread - Marys Grandmothers recipe Directions

  1. Dissolve yeast in water, add sugar, salt, oil and mix well
  2. Add flour, 1 cup at a time, mix well. Knead for 10 minutes
  3. Raise for 30 minutes or until doubled in size.
  4. Divide dough in half, roll out into 2 rectangles and roll up like a jelly roll from the long side. Seal edges and ends. Place seam side down on a large cookie sheet. Slash 3 times diagonally on top, let rise 30 minutes.
  5. Beat an egg with a teaspoon of water and brush the tops of each loaf
  6. Bake at 350 for about 25-35 minutes or until
