1 tablespoon(s) yeast
1 1/2 cup(s) warm water
6 cup(s) flour
1 cup(s) sourdough starter
2 teaspoon(s) salt
2 teaspoon(s) sugar
1/2 teaspoon(s) baking soda

Sourdough Bread Directions

  1. In large bowl, dissolve yeast in water. Blend in 2 1/2 cups flour, sourdough starter, salt, and sugar.
  2. Add the baking soda, mix well. Add enough of the remaining flour to make a stiff dough.
  3. Turn out onto a lightly floured surface and knead til smooth and elastic, 5-7 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, cover and let rise til double. This takes a little longer than most breads, about 1 1/2 hours.
  4. Punch down, divide dough in half. Shape into 2 round loaves and place on greased baking sheets, or
