Hemorrhoids are partially hereditary, but they can also be caused by and be remedied by such things as diet and toilet habits. Don’t be embarrassed, lets learn how to deal with them.

Strive for soft easy bowel movements – passing stool should not be a long arduous affair. Huffing and puffing on the toilet provides just the kind of strain needed to engorge and swell the veins in your rectum. So solution….drink lots of fluids, eat lots of fiber, and practice some of the following remedies.

Oil your inner workings – Once you’ve increased the fiber and fluids in your diet, your stool should become softer and pass with less effort. You may help your bowels to move even more smoothly by lubricating your anus with a dab of petroleum jelly. Using a cotton swab or your finger, apply the jelly about 1/2 inch into the rectum.

Clean tenderly – You must clean yourself tenderly and gently. Toilet paper can be scratchy and can contain chemical irritants. Purchase only nonperfumed, non colored toilet paper, and dampen it under the faucet before each wipe.

Try facial tissues instead of toilet paper – it’s lubricated and hemorrhoid friendly

Don’t scratch – hemorrhoids can itch, and scratching can make them feel better. Don’t give in to the scratching! you can damage the walls of these delicate veins and make matters much worse for yourself.

Don’t lift a piano – Heavy lifting and strenuous exercise can act like straining on the toilet

Soak – The sitz bath, sitting with your knees raised in 3 or 4 inches of warm water in a bathtub is a remedy that still tops the list of most experts as a way to deal with hemorrhoids. The warm water helps to kill the pain while increasing the flow of blood to the area

Apply medication – There are  a lot of meds on the market, and while they will not cure the hemorrhoid they can make you feel lots better

Witch hazel – A dab of witch hazel applied to the rectum with a cotton ball is one of the very best remedies available for external hemorrhoids, especially if there’s bleeding. It cause the blood vessels to shrink down and contract. Soak a cotton ball in witch hazel and apply it against your hemorrhoid until it’s no longer cold

Watch your weight – weight causes more pressure, pressure causes hemorrhoids

Control your salt – Excess salt causes fluid retention and that causes bulging veins

Food and drink – certain foods can cause great discomfort as they pass through the bowels. Watch out for strong coffee, strong spices, beer and cola’s

Pregnant? pregnant women are particularly prone to hemorrhoids, in part because the uterus sits directly on the blood vessels that drain the hemorrhoidial veins. A remedy may be to lie on your left side for about 20 minutes every 4-6 hours. By doing so you decrease pressure on the main vein draining the lower half of the body

Sit on a doughnut – A doughnut shaped cushion can be very useful if you suffer from hemorrhoids

See a doctor if – you’ve always had a healthy bottom and suddenly you have hemorrhoids

If you have itching and have been abroad recently , it could be parasites.

If you have bleeding from the rectum, or have an enlarged vein in your anus that has clotted and turned big and blue.

Bottom line…… stay clean, be gentle, have patience, and see your doctor if you can’t find relief in a several days
