1 cup(s) butter or margarine
1/4 cup(s) cocoa
1 cup(s) water
2 cup(s) sugar
1 teaspoon(s) baking soda
1/2 teaspoon(s) salt
2 cup(s) flour
1/2 cup(s) sour cream or buttermilk
1 tablespoon(s) vanilla
3 eggs
1/2 cup(s) butter
4 tablespoon(s) cocoa
5 tablespoon(s) milk
4 cup(s) powdered sugar
1 teaspoon(s) vanilla

Texas Sheet Cake Directions

  1. Melt butter, cocoa and water together in saucepan and bring to a boil, then remove from heat
  2. Sift together, flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, add to cocoa mixture. Add sour cream or buttermilk, vanilla and eggs, mix well.
  3. Bake in 10 1/2 x 15 1/2 inch sheet pan for 25-30 at 350 degrees
  4. Cool until just warm, frost while still warm
  5. Frost with 1/2 cup butter, 4 tbsp cocoa and milk, mix together well and spread on cake. Sprinkle with chopped nuts
