Frustrated by your childs sense of what is good food? Here is a secret…….a child will eat anything in a tortilla! A child will eat even more of it if it looks like fun food.
Now when you think tortillas, a lot of you think of a taco, a burrito, that’s all good, but a tortilla can be used for so much more. I’m going to share some ideas to make happy tortilla eating kids, and happy parents because your kids are eating.
1 flour tortilla, peanut butter, jam. Spread and roll up tightly, cut in half or into 1 inch pieces
Spread flour tortilla with garden cream cheese, cover with your choice of cheese and lunch meat, roll tightly and cut into rounds
1 cooked hotdog, or polish sausage. I cook mine in a frying pan or on the grill until slightly crispy. 1 large flour tortilla. Place hotdog or sausage in center of tortilla then use your imagination, do you like chili, sauerkraut, mustard, onions? Place whatever you like on your dogs, add a little cheese and roll into a burrito so all the ends are enclosed. Then I place them on a dry stovetop grill and cook until all the sides are browned.
Flour tortillas, sticky rice or left over fried rice, spread thinly over tortilla. Cut cucumbers and carrots into thin matchsticks and lay over rice. Roll tightly and cut into 1 inch slices. This looks a lot like sushi and it’s totally healthy!
Fill tortillas with chicken or turkey salad.
Flour tortillas, your choice of cheese or cheeses, shred cheese and sprinkle over tortilla. Place in frying pan or on dry griddle until lightly browned and cheese is melted.
Flour tortilla, Nutella spread, strawberries, or marshmallows or bananas! Oh so good
Corn tortillas, Placed in a plastic ziplock like bag, but not sealed and microwaved for 45 seconds to soften. left over seasoned roast beef, or roasted chicken or pork, shred the meat. Combine meat with whatever makes you happy, diced green chilies, a little onion, place a small amount of meat on tortilla and roll tightly. Skewer it with a toothpick, and deep fry til lightly browned and the tortilla is crunchy
Depending on what you’re serving, serve a dipping sauce with it for added flavor and fun. Ranch dressing is always a big deal at our house for dunking almost anything. But try soy sauce, bbq sauce, catsup, mustard, taco sauces, hot sauces if you have brave people at your house. The ideas are endless!
These are just a few ideas, look in your fridge, your pantry, see what you like, what the kids like or what you’d like them to like, and roll it up in a tortilla. Serve with a dipping sauce and watch them try new things and clean their plates!
